Marla Korr is known for her rich landscapes of the Hudson River Valley, city scenes of Manhattan, and marine paintings of Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard. Her natural ability and classical training enable her to express the subtle changes in light and atmosphere producing paintings which are sensitive and powerful. Being influenced by both Classical Realism and Impressionism, her paintings combine a range of feelings with technical excellence and craftsmanship.
Korr earned a Master of Fine Arts degree at Brooklyn College (CUNY) and studied with Phillip Pearlstein, Lennart Anderson, and Jimmy Ernst. After the two year program, she continued her studies at the New York Academy followed by a six year rigorous program with Alma Gallanos Stevenson at the Stevenson Academy of Traditional Painting where drawing from plaster casts and studying anatomy were prerequisites to painting the nude model. (The founder of the school was Harold Stevenson, friend and apprentice of Norman Rockwell when he lived in Arlington, Vermont.)
In addition to her full time painting schedule she teaches a group of dedicated artists at her studio, imparting the knowledge and methods she has practiced and the importance of integrity in art. Korr also conducts plein air painting workshops.
