Interest in painting came to Zufar early in life from his father, whose dreams to become artist and attend Nicolai Fechin's Art school in Kazan could not come true during Stalin's regime era, and from Zufar's talented teachers in art school. "My dad never pushed me to art career" recalls Zufar. Albums of his father's watercolors as well as his father's paints and brushes, became fertile soil for seed for Zufar's artistic talent to grow. Zufar was 11 when he painted his first few plein air paintings of nearby village cottages, and of horse resting next to a carriage delivering pies to the local market. It was so different from painting still-life or a model in the art school studio, so he fell in love with landscape painting and started to explore painting through direct observation.

When the time came to choose a college and profession, Zufar's soul called for the need to help people which led to medical career. During study in medical school, then residency and finally move to the United States, art never was left behind and continued to be essential part of his self-actualization. He was honored to participate in exhibits "Doctors Paint" in State Museum of Fine Arts in Kazan and at Yale Medical School.

Zufar's landscapes and cityscapes lean towards Russian and Soviet era impressionism. For him, art is continuous experimentation and growth. During the last ten years in the United States, Zufar has been invited to numerous national plein air competitions, where he has won several of awards. Among them, Zufar treasures his Artist Choice award at Plein Air Easton. Receiving a Medal of Honor and an Award of Merit from Kent Art Association which was first art organization in United States that he joined, is another one of his most memorable achievements.

Zufar's paintings are in private collections in United States from New England to California, in the United Kingdom, Spain, and, of course, in Russia.
