Birgitta Kappe
Birgitta was born and raised in Sweden and came to the United States in 1966. Her first experience with painting was with watercolor. She changed her main focus to oils because she enjoys the rich texture of the paint and the direct effect it has on her work. Birgitta is a plein air artist, meaning she paints outside on location to capture the nuances of her subject matter. She has studied under numerous well known artists such as Milford Zornes, Robert E. Woods, and Ovanes Berberian.
Her work has been exhibited in several galleries and solo shows throughout the last fifteen years in Southern California and continues to be enthusiastically received by art critics and art collectors throughout the country. She has also shown her work at The Desert Plein Air Competition and The La Quinta Art Festival, where her work was purchased by the Betty Ford Center. She received the award of Best Oil Painter in 2000 at the Art-A-Fair Festival. Her painting, Hills With Poppies was chosen as the image award for the Art-A-Fair Festival poster for 2003.
